Police issue 56 tickets for speeding and other vehicle-related offences

On Wednesday and Thursday, the Halifax Regional Police Traffic Unit issued 56 tickets in relation to stunting, speeding and other motor vehicle-related offences.

Over the two days, Traffic members issued 56 summary offence tickets: 25 for speeding including one for stunting, 11 for no insurance, four others for using a cell phone while driving and 17 for other offences including bald tires, driving with a revoked license and operating an unregistered vehicle.

Yesterday at approximately 12pm, a member of the Traffic Unit observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Dartmouth Road in Bedford. The officer observed the vehicle’s speed at 103 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

A 29-year-old man was ticketed for stunting under the Motor Vehicle Act, a charge that is automatically laid when a vehicle is travelling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit. The fine in Nova Scotia for stunting is $2,422.50 and six points are assigned to the driver’s record. In addition, the man was suspended from driving for seven days.

We all have a role to play in keeping our roads safe. If you see someone driving dangerously, report it to police by calling 911.
