Meteghan RCMP charge man with firearms offences

Meteghan RCMP has charged a man after shots were fired at a home on Belle Vue St. in Belliveau’s Cove.

On May 7, 2022, at approximately 10:30 a.m.,​ Meteghan RCMP responded to a complaint of an unknown disturbance at a home on Belle Vue St. in Belliveau’s Cove. The first​ RCMP officer on scene observed a man exiting the home with a firearm and heard a shot being fired. RCMP officers evacuated adjacent homes, secured the area, and closed the road in the area.

Additional officers responded​ from​ Yarmouth Rural RCMP, Yarmouth Town RCMP and Digby RCMP Detachments. RCMP​ Police Dog Services, the Nova Scotia Emergency Response Team and a Hostage Negotiator were also activated and began making their way to the scene.

At 11:38 a.m., RCMP officers safely took a 23-year-old man into custody. He was transported to the Meteghan RCMP Detachment where he was held in custody.

Dawson Laurie Comeau, 23, of Belliveau’s Cove, has been charged with the following:

  • Careless Use of a Firearm;
  • Pointing a Firearm (2 counts);
  • Reckless Discharge of a Firearm;
  • Uttering Threats;
  • Mischief;
  • Resist Arrest.

Comeau has been remanded into custody and will appear in Digby Provincial Court on May 9, 2022 at 9:30 a.m.

The investigation is continuing.
