Police charge woman for robbery

Police have charged a woman for a robbery and five thefts that occurred in Halifax.

On December 23, 2021, police responded to a robbery that had occurred on Bilby Street in Halifax. A woman approached another woman who was not known to her and grabbed her from behind around the neck. The woman took the victim’s wallet and fled the area on foot.

Yesterday, January 16, officers located the suspect at a residence in Halifax and arrested her without incident.

Kiara Marie Organ, 18, is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court today to face one count each of robbery and assault by choking.

Organ is also facing five counts of theft, five counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and one count of breach of probation in relation to five thefts from stores in Halifax that occurred between November 23, 2021 and January 15, 2022.

 

Police charge man with assault with a weapon

Police have charged a man with assault with a weapon in relation to an incident that occurred in Halifax last week.

On January 14 at approximately 6:50 p.m., police responded to a weapons call at the Halifax Transit Terminal on Mumford Road. A man asked another man to stop smoking inside the bus terminal. The man who was smoking produced a knife and threatened the other man. He then left the area on foot. The victim was not physically injured.

Officers arrested the suspect in the area a short time later and seized a knife.

A 20-year-old -man is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court at a later date to face charges of:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Uttering threats to cause bodily harm or death
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace
