RCMP charge man with firearms offences

 

Pictou County District RCMP has charged a man who had had uttered threats and barricaded himself in a home in Pictou.

At approximately 2:45 a.m. yesterday morning, police were called to a home on Chestnut St. in Pictou as a man who was in the home had been sending threatening messages to a woman known to him. When police arrived, they determined that the man had a firearm that he was threatening to use and he was refusing to exit the home. Police began communicating with the man over the phone and continued a dialogue with him for approximately forty-five minutes. The man ultimately decided to surrender and was arrested without further incident.

Joshua John Fawcett, 23, of Pictou, has been charged with the following:

  • ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​Uttering Threats Against a Person;
  • ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm;
  • ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​Possession of a Firearm when Knowing Possession is Unauthorized;
  • ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose;
  • ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​Unsafe Storage of a Firearm;
  • ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​Possession of a Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order;
  • ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​Failure to Comply with a Probation Order.

Fawcett was remanded into custody and will appear in Pictou Provincial Court on December 20, 2021 at 11 a.m. for a bail hearing.
