SHOOTING UPDATE – The Amherst Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred on Monday, Nov. 8, 2021, at about 2 p.m. on Bayview Drive in Amherst.

Arriving on the scene, police found a person suffering from a gunshot wound.

Paramedics transported the victim to the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre with life-threatening injuries.

“We are sad to report that the victim in this incident has tragically succumbed to their injures and has passed away,” Police Chief Dwayne Pike said. “Our deepest condolences and thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim at this time.”

The victim did not reside at the residence.
Officers have arrested a person in relation to the incident and have determined there is no further threat to the public.

The department’s major crime unit is investigating the shooting, with assistance from department patrol members, the Cumberland Integrated Crime Unit, the Cumberland RCMP and the H Division Forensic Identification Section.
