Location: Herring Cove Road, from Armdale Rotary to Cowie Hill

Work details: This work is for pavement rehabilitation. This project supports the 2021-25 Regional Council Strategic Priorities Plan to establish a safe and accessible integrated mobility network.

Traffic impact: Stop and go traffic will be in place during this work.​ Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes whenever possible.

Road Construction– Ochterloney Street

Location: Ochterloney Street, between Alderney Drive and Victoria Road

Date: Friday, Sep. 24

Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Work details: This work is for natural gas service line installation.

Traffic impact: One-way traffic will be maintained while work is underway. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes whenever possible.​ ​

Night Time Road Construction – Wyse Road

Location: Wyse Road, at the intersection with Nantucket Avenue

Date: Thursday, Sept. 23

Time: 8 p.m. on Thursday until 6 a.m. on Friday

Work details: This work is for traffic signals installation. This project supports the 2021-25 Regional Council Strategic Priorities Plan to establish a safe and accessible integrated mobility network.

Traffic impact: Intersection signals will be shut down and there will be stop and go traffic during this work. Traffic control personnel will be in place to direct motorists and pedestrians. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes whenever possible.

Road Construction – Hollis Street

Location: Hollis Street, between Morris Street and Terminal Road

Work details: This work is to replace flexible bollards on bike lanes.

Traffic impact: Traffic lanes will be maintained but narrowed around work sites. Bike lanes and sidewalks will remain open.

Parking Lot Closure – Sir Sandford Fleming Park

Location: Sir Sandford Fleming Park

Date: Monday, Sept. 20 to Wednesday, Sept. 22

Time: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily

Work details: This work is for paving the parking lot of Sir Sandford Fleming Park.

Traffic Impact: No public access for parking or to the boat launch will be allowed during work.

Traffic impact: Two-way traffic will be maintained while work is underway. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes whenever possible.​

Road Construction – North Street

Location: North Street, between Dublin and Oxford streets

Date: Saturday, Sept. 18

Time: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Work details: This work is related to the setup of a relocated protected sidewalk on the north side of North Street. This project supports the 2021-25 Regional Council Strategic Priorities Plan to establish a safe and accessible integrated mobility network.

Traffic Impact: Stop-and-go traffic will be in place while work is underway. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes whenever possible.

Night Time​ Road Construction – South Park Street

Location: South Park Street at Spring Garden Road

Date: Sunday, Sept. 19, 2021 to Monday, Sept. 20, 2021

Time: 6 p.m. on Sunday to 6 a.m. on Monday

Work details: This work is related to Nova Scotia Power utility pole replacement.

Traffic impact: Stop-and-go traffic will be in place at the intersection of South Park Street and Spring Garden Road. Additional stop-and-go traffic will be in place at the intersection of Spring Garden Road and Martello Street. The sidewalk will be closed on the west side of South Park Street, between Sackville Street and Spring Garden Road, and on the north side of Spring Garden Road between Summer Street and North Park Street.

Road Construction – Bayers Road

Location: Bayers Road, at the entrance to Halifax Shopping Centre

Date: Sunday, Sept. 19

Time: ​ 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Work details: This work is for traffic signals at this intersection, in support of the Bayers Road Transit Priority Corridor project.

Traffic impact: Traffic signals will be shut down and traffic control personnel will be in place to direct traffic and pedestrians during this work. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes whenever possible.

Road Construction – Larry Uteck Boulevard

Location: Larry Uteck Boulevard, at the intersection of Broad Street South and Brookline Drive

Date: Monday, Sept. 20 to Friday, Dec. 24

Time: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily

Work details: This work is for the construction of a new roundabout at the intersection of Larry Uteck Boulevard, Broad Street South and Brookline Drive. This project supports the 2021-25 Regional Council Strategic Priorities Plan to establish a safe and accessible integrated mobility network and will improve access to and from current and future developments in Bedford West.

Traffic Impact: Motorists and cyclists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes whenever possible. Traffic lane reductions and temporary street closures will be required throughout construction to complete the work. Further announcements will be issued for any street closures or detours.

Road Closures – Portland Street and Prince Albert Road: Open Street Sundays

Location: Portland Street, from Alderney Drive to Prince Albert Road, and Prince Albert Road, from Portland to Hawthorne streets.

Date: Sunday, Sept. 19.

Time: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Work details: This closure is for Open Street Sundays – a community-led initiative, which aims to open streets to a greater variety of transportation modes. The event is meant to encourage people to enjoy the Halifax region in a new way by walking, biking and moving around safely and comfortably on a two-kilometer route. Traffic impact: the route will be closed to motorists, however, access will be maintained for emergency vehicles if required. Traffic will be permitted to cross Portland Street at King Street. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes whenever possible.

Road Construction – St. Margarets Bay Road

Location: St. Margarets Bay Road, between Beech Tree Run and Sheppards Run

Date: Monday, Sept. 20 to Friday, Oct. 1

Time: Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Work details: This work is for road widening on St. Margarets Bay Road.

Traffic impact: Stop and go traffic will be in place during the work. Sidewalks will also be closed during working hours.

Construction during COVID-19:​ Construction crews will strive to maintain physical distancing measures, however, residents may see workers within two metres of each other while completing certain tasks which aligns with the exemptions outlined in the Provincial Health Order. If approaching construction crews, residents are asked to maintain at least two metres of physical distancing.

**** Provincial Media Release

HALIFAX REGIONAL MUNICIPALITY: Dillmans Bridge, Meaghers Grant

Dillmans Bridge on Wyse Road is closed until further notice. A detour is available via Old Guysborough Road. Signs are in place.

HALIFAX REGIONAL MUNICIPALITY: Peggys Point Road, Peggy’s Cove

Peggys Point Road, from the Visitor Information Centre west for about one kilometre, is reduced to one lane for roadwork until Wednesday, Sept. 22.

Work to take place from sunrise to sunset.

HANTS COUNTY: Highway 102, Lantz

A temporary detour is in place on Highway 102 north of Exit 8, Elmsdale, for the replacement of the Nine Mile River bridges, northbound and southbound. This work is part of ongoing construction for the new Lantz Interchange and Connector Road.

The Lantz Interchange and Connector Road is expected to be complete and open to traffic by Sunday, Oct. 31.

LUNENBURG COUNTY: Highway 103

Highway 103, between exits 9 and 10, has alternating lane closures for roadwork until Thursday, Sept. 30.

Work takes place 24 hours per day.

ANTIGONISH COUNTY: Highway 104, James River

Highway 104, westbound lane about one kilometre west of James River Interchange, Exit 30, will be reduced to one lane for approximately one kilometre.

Twinning work continues until 2023.

Signage is in place and drivers are encouraged to use caution.

DIGBY COUNTY: Joggins Bridge, Highway 101

Joggins Bridge, between exits 25 and 26, will be reduced to one lane with a reduced speed limit of 80 km/h due to bridge rehabilitation. Work will take place until Sunday, Oct 31.

Traffic control is in place.
