**** Elections Nova Scotia Release
Get Your Completed Write-in Ballot Back on Time!
Voters who have applied to vote by write-in ballot are reminded to return their completed ballot before 8 pm on election day, August 17, 2021, so it can count.
To count in the election, all completed write-in ballots must be received by 8 pm on August 17. Voters are asked to please allow adequate time so their completed write-in ballot can be returned.
If a voter does not feel there is enough time to return their completed write-in ballot by mail, they can opt to return it in-person to their returning office or have an agent return it on their behalf. Returning offices can also send election workers to pick up a completed write-in ballot if a voter is not able to return it.
Once a voter’s application for a write-in ballot has been processed, they must vote by that method instead of at an in-person voting location.
It is not too late to apply to vote by write-in ballot in the 41 Provincial General Election. Applications for write-in ballot can still be made in-person or by agent through returning offices. The deadlines to apply for a write-in ballot in person or by agent are as follows:
- Saturday, August 14 – 6pm (out of district)
- Tuesday, August 17 – 3pm (in district)
Returning offices can also arrange to have a write-in ballot team visit a voter at home to help them apply for and complete a write-in ballot.
An agent is someone who is 18 years or older that can act on behalf of an eligible voter. They can assist the voter to apply for a write-in ballot and can return the completed write-in ballot for that voter.
