Commercial truck driver charged after collision on Hwy. 104
Cumberland County District RCMP has charged a commercial truck driver after a motor vehicle collision that occurred on Hwy. 104 in Salt Springs.
On August 2, at approximately 2:45 p.m., police were on scene of an unrelated motor vehicle collision on Hwy. 104 when an RCMP police car, that was sitting on the side of the road with it’s emergency lights activated, was struck from behind by a passing commercial truck. At the time of the collision, an RCMP officer was sitting in the driver’s seat of the police car. As a result of the collision with the police car, the commercial truck entered the ditch.
The police officer was taken to hospital for assessment and was later released with minor injuries. The driver of the commercial truck was uninjured. The driver of the commercial truck was issued a Summary Offence Ticket for failing to move over for an emergency vehicle.
The RCMP would like to remind the public to slow down and move over when passing an emergency vehicle working on the side of the road. By doing so, you are helping to ensure that emergency workers make it home safe to their families at the end of their shift.
