Man facing multiple charges after collision

Halifax District RCMP has charged a man with multiple charges after a motor vehicle collision in Westphal.

At about 5:53 p.m. on July 19, Halifax District RCMP responded to a motor vehicle collision on Brookside Ave. in Westphal. The collision involved a vehicle striking a parked car. Upon arrival, the responding officer noted the driver was showing signs of impairment and attempted to arrest the driver. The driver resisted when the officer tried to handcuff him and a struggle ensued. The man was able to escape and ran into the woods followed by the member who eventually lost sight of the man.

On July 20, police received a complaint of a stolen vehicle from Ross Rd. in Westphal that occurred overnight. The unoccupied vehicle was later located in Dartmouth. The vehicle owner had advised police that his credit card was in the car at the time it was stolen and was used at multiple locations in Cole Harbour and Dartmouth. This information led to investigators identifying the person using the stolen credit card as the driver who fled from police on July 19.

On July 21, the same man was arrested by Halifax Regional Police on unrelated matters and turned over to RCMP without incident.

David Andrew Haislip, 30, remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on July 22.He is charged with:

  • Impaired Operation of a Conveyance
  • Escape Lawful Custody
  • Fail to Stop at Accident
  • Obstruction
  • Fail to Attend Court
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Greater Than $5000
  • Fraud by Credit Card Under $5000 x 5
  • Theft Under $5000
