RCMP fines ten people for violating Health Protection Act

Halifax District RCMP has charged ten people for violating Nova Scotia’s Health Protection Act in two separate instances.

At 1:50 a.m. on May​ 20, police were on patrol and stopped a vehicle on Highway 7 in Port Dufferin. Police learned that three of the occupants were from Indian Brook, and one was from Shubenacadie. Police charged the four men under the Health Protection Act for non-essential travel outside of the municipality where they primarily reside.

At​ 10:20​ p.m. on May​ 20, police were called to a disturbance involving a large group of people on Caldwell Rd. in Eastern Passage. When police arrived, six people remained in the area and were not socially distanced. Police charged four males and two females between the ages of 15 and 21 under the Health Protection Act for not following social distancing requirements.

The tickets each carry a fine amount of​ $2,422.00.
