Water Distribution System Flushing

In order to maintain high-quality water throughout the water distribution system, Halifax Water crews will be undertaking seasonal hydrant flushing Sunday, April 25 in the areas of Westphal, Caledonia and Montebello; West Bedford, Kearney Lake and Hemlock Ravine; downtown Halifax and Spryfield.

Flushing in these areas will begin Sunday, April 25 at 10:00 PM and continue each day from 10:00PM – 6:00AM until Friday, April 23 at 6:00AM. This 5-day flushing rotation will continue for approximately two months as crews move throughout the distribution system. Further updates will be provided as flushing progresses to other areas. There will be no traffic impacts.​ ​

As a result of this water distribution system maintenance, some customers may experience temporarily discoloured water in the areas of Westphal, Caledonia and Montebello; West Bedford, Kearney Lake and Hemlock Ravine; downtown Halifax and Spryfield. Residents can check the online interactive map at www.halifaxwater.ca/notice/2021-water-distribution-system-flushing​ to see if they’re in the temporarily discoloured areas.
