Emotional Support Line Open for Public
A confidential, toll-free line is now open to help anyone in need of emotional support as they reflect on the April 2020 tragedy that began in Portapique, Colchester Co.
People can call the free support line at 1-866-885-6540. It is available 24 hours a day every day and includes service for the hearing impaired. Morneau Shepell is providing the service and support.
“Memories of the tragedy will impact people in many different ways,” said Premier Iain Rankin. “Resources are available for those who need it. I encourage anyone who needs mental health or emotional support to use these services. This dedicated line is available every day at any hour. You are not alone.”
People who call the line will receive professional counselling support and/or a referral to resources in their community.
“The residents of Nova Scotia, particularly those affected by the tragic shootings in and around Portapique last year, have shown great strength and resiliency. Yet the anniversary of a traumatic event can often stir up difficult memories and emotions. We encourage anyone who is struggling through this troubling time to reach out for help through our free, confidential crisis support hotline.”
