Honour and Remember Nova Scotians Lost During April 2020 Tragedy
—————————————————————-
The Province of Nova Scotia is inviting people to unite in honouring and remembering the 22 Nova Scotians who were killed on April 18 and 19, 2020.
“Last April an unthinkable tragedy broke our hearts and shattered lives. As we observe the one-year mark of those senseless events, I hope Nova Scotians will take time to remember our fellow Nova Scotians who were taken from us, as well as the injured and the families whose lives were forever changed,” said Premier Iain Rankin.
Premier Rankin and his wife, Mary Chisholm, will attend the Nova Scotia Remembers Memorial Ceremony on April 18 at 3 p.m. The ceremony is organized by the Nova Scotia Remembers Legacy Society.
Nova Scotians who wish to watch the service of remembrance can do so via the Society’s Facebook page: www.facebook.com/groups/162084731778930. The service of remembrance will also be livestreamed by news media.
A province-wide moment of silence will be observed at 3 p.m. on April 18, coinciding with the start of the memorial ceremony. Premier Rankin encourages all Nova Scotians to pause at this time for two minutes to remember and honour those most impacted by the events of April 2020.
The flags at Province House will be at half-mast from sunrise on April 18 to sunset on April 19, and Province House will be lit in blue. A lone piper will play on the grounds of Province House as the flags are lowered.
Flags at all provincial government buildings and institutions will also be at half-mast. Citizens, businesses and community organizations who fly flags are also encouraged to lower them to half-mast for April 18 and 19. Others may choose to put a flag in their window as a way of remembering.
In determining how to mark the one-year anniversary, the province worked with the Nova Scotia Remembers Legacy Society. More information on the society and the ways in which they are marking the anniversary is available at: novascotiaremembers.ca and www.facebook.com/groups/162084731778930
