Halifax District RCMP locate lost ATV rider

Halifax District RCMP have located a lost ATV rider after he became separated from his group.

On March 13, at approximately 8:10 p.m., Halifax District RCMP received a call from a missing ATV rider in an area off Old Guysborough Rd. The ATV rider had become separated from friends, gotten stuck and was getting cold. Police were able to acquire his GPS location through his cell phone.

RCMP deployed a police ATV but were only able to get partway to the lost rider. Members had to continue their search on foot and heard a male yelling. At approximately 11:00 p.m., police located the male. His ATV was stuck in mud and he had lost one of his boots. Members were able to use a hat, sock and tape to make a temporary boot. The male was able to walk by himself to the police vehicle, where he was transported to the main road by 11:55 p.m.

RCMP would like to remind riders to always tell someone when you are leaving and when you will be back. Avoid riding alone and carry a first aid kit, tow rope, and overnight bag in case you need it.
