Wagmatcook man charged with child luring offences
Baddeck RCMP has charged a Wagmatcook man for offences related to child luring. The investigation began on April 9 when a victim contacted police. The subsequent police investigation resulted in charges against the accused in relation to three youths. On April 11, Baddeck RCMP searched a home in Wagmatcook.
As a result of the investigation, Kadnii Blaise Johnson, 32, of Wagmatcook First Nation was charged on April 14 with the following offences:
- Sexual Exploitation of a Young Person
- Distribution of Obscene Material (3 counts)
- Transmitting Sexually Explicit Material to a Young Person (3 counts)
- Luring a Child
The accused was released on a number of strict conditions and is scheduled to appear at Wagmatcook Provincial Court on July 14, 2020.
In Nova Scotia it is mandatory for citizens to report suspected child pornography. This means that anyone who encounters child pornography material or recordings must report it to the police. Failing to report suspicious activity and materials could result in penalties similar to failure to report child abuse set out in the Child and Family Services Act. The RCMP encourages citizens to be a voice for children who are victims of sexual exploitation by reporting any suspected offences to your local police or by using Canada’s National tipline for reporting online sexual exploitation of children at www.cybertip.ca.
Investigators feel that due to the nature of the accused’s position in the community, there may be additional victims. Anyone who feels they could be a victim, or has concerns about someone else who could be a victim, is encouraged to contact Baddeck RCMP at 902-295-2350.
