**** RCMP Media Release
RCMP members who have been providing security at the Portapique site want to thank the community for their support since the incidents of April 18/19. During a time of such sorrow, the community has been extremely welcoming to our members and we want to thank them.
Community members have ensured we weren’t hungry, and one resident even had a barbeque for everyone on site. One person brought out a fridge and a microwave and plugged them in, so that everyone on site could have access to cold drinks and heat up their food. They kept us supplied with drinks and hand sanitizer too. We were having an issue with keeping our portable radios charged, and asked a resident for some assistance. He gladly provided an extension cord so that we could charge them on site. We feel your sorrow, heartbreak, and fear, but we really feel your Maritime pride shining through.
To help with that fear, one of our members heard that some of the kids in the neighbourhood were afraid to play outside. An RCMP officer played basketball with one girl to help set her at ease, and checked back in with her on his next shift to make sure she was okay. We’re doing everything we can to help, and we’re so appreciative of the response from the community.
Thank you. Let’s be #NovaScotiaStrong together.
