On Thursday at 9pm, HSAR was requested by RCMP to locate and assist a lost hiker in the Peggy’s Cove area. Responding HSAR members quickly found the hiker in thick brush a half kilometer into the woods, and assisted him out to safety. All parties cleared the scene around 11pm.
The hiker was well prepared, with a high visibility jacket, noise signalling device, light, survival blanket, water, and a charged cellphone. His preparation helped make for a quick and comfortable rescue for him. This is a good reminder to always be prepared, as nobody plans to become lost, but a little preparation goes a long way if do.
