Every year, Nova Scotians make dangerous contact with powerlines

Whether you come across a downed wire, or are working on repairs or construction around your home, ask yourself: Am I at least six metres away from the powerline?

To help you stay safe, please keep these electrical safety tips in mind:

✅ Treat downed wires as live and dangerous.
✅ Do not assume that powerlines are insulated. The insulation can be worn through exposure to weather.
✅ If you’re near a wire, shuffle by keeping both feet touching the ground until you are at least 20 metres (a school bus length) away from the wires. Then call 911.
