(Update) Police on scene of a bear in tree – Dartmouth

Update

We’re pleased to report that our staff were successful in tranquilizing and removing a young black bear from a tree on the Dartmouth Commons today. They are relocating it to an appropriate location. Many thanks to @HfxRegPolice @hfxfire @RCMPNS for their help.

Update

Update – The bear is safe. After being tranqualized the bear fell onto air cushions.

A quick check over by DNR and the bear is loaded into a transport pod.

Avoid the area of Dartmouth Commons

Police are asking the public to stay out of the area of the Dartmouth Commons, bordered by Wyse Rd, Thistle Street, Victoria Road, Park Avenue and Alderney Drive Dartmouth.

Police are assisting with a wildlife call for a bear. We will update when it is safe to enter the park.
