Residents invited to provide input on rapid transit strategy
The Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting residents to share their thoughts on rapid transit through an online survey and at a number of scheduled pop-ups.
To better meet the needs of residents, the municipality is developing a strategy to establish a Rapid Transit Network. The proposed network includes four Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) routes to provide faster and more frequent service, as well as the potential for new ferry service to provide connections to Downtown Halifax, with departing terminals and routes being explored as part of the strategy.
The strategy will also look at connections between transit and land use, encouraging development near stations so that new growth is transit-oriented and sustainable.
There are ten scheduled pop-ups. Residents can also share their thoughts by online survey at www.shapeyourcityhalifax.ca/rapid-transit
Public input will help inform the strategy to be presented to Transportation Standing Committee in Spring 2020.
This strategy is being completed as part of the Integrated Mobility Plan to improve mobility for residents and to help the municipality move toward a more sustainable transportation system by encouraging transit use.
