Annapolis District RCMP investigating serious ATV collision

Annapolis District RCMP is investigating a serious collision that occurred on a trail near Hwy. 10 in New Albany.

On September 10, at approximately 12:50 p.m., Annapolis District RCMP, fire services, and EHS responded to a report of a collision on a trail near Hwy. 10 and Squirelltown Rd. in New Albany. RCMP officers learned that a Mahindra side by side and an Arctic Cat ATV were travelling in opposite directions on the trail when they collided in a curve.

The ATV driver, a 28-year-old Hampton man, suffered life threatening injuries and was airlifted to hospital by LifeFlight. The passenger of the ATV, an 18-year-old Lawrencetown woman, suffered minor injuries and was transported to hospital by EHS.

The driver of the side by side, a 63-year-old Wilmot man, suffered minor injuries and was transported to hospital by EHS. The passenger of the side by side, a 47-year-old Dartmouth woman was not injured.

The investigation is ongoing.

Pictou County District RCMP respond to swimmers in distress

 

Pictou County District RCMP respond to swimmers in distress at Melmerby Beach.

On September 10, 2022, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Pictou County District RCMP, Little Harbour Fire Department, New Glasgow Fire Department and EHS responded to a 911 report of swimmers in distress at a beach on Little Harbour Rd. in Melmerby Beach. RCMP officers learned that a woman became in distress while attempting to rescue a man from the water. Bystanders assisted bringing them both to shore and administered first aid.

The 57-year-old Halifax man was transported to hospital by EHS where he was pronounced deceased. The 64-year-old Halifax woman, who suffered serious injuries, was transported to hospital by EHS.

The investigation is ongoing and being assisted by the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s Office.
