The Covid Chronicle

**** RCMP Media Release

Just in case you were thinking of gathering in the Otter Lake Dr. area for some socializing and drag racing this coming weekend, we’d thought we’d let you know, we’ll be around.

Last Sunday evening, April 5, Halifax District RCMP observed approximately 10 vehicles parked on the shoulder of Otter Lake Dr., the smell of burnt rubber and marks on the pavement. As the member approached, he observed several youths scramble to get into multiple vehicles. The member activated his emergency equipment, stopped the vehicles and spoke to the occupants.

Numerous people were gathered together to socialize (none from the area). Approximately 14 Summary Offence Tickets were issued, some under the Motor Vehicle Act but most under the Health Protection Act for failing to limit social gatherings of 5 or more persons and/or social distancing. As a reminder, fines under the Health Protection Act start at $1,000.

The RCMP thanks Nova Scotians for their continued support and to the vast majority who are adhering to the directives outlined by the provincial government.
