World Turtle Day History
World Turtle Day seeks to raise awareness about turtles and tortoises.
This day aims to protect them and their habitats. It encourages people to learn more about them in order to keep them safe and protected.
According to seeturtles.org, 6 out of 7 turtle species are classified as threatened or endangered. This means if nothing is done, they may go extinct in the future.
World Turtle Day was created in 2000 by the nonprofit organization American Tortoise Rescue. It is observed annually on May 23rd.
