Police release homicide victim’s name and charge man
Police are releasing the name of the victim and have charged a man in relation to a homicide that occurred last evening, May 21, ​ in the Barrington Street area of Halifax.
An autopsy was conducted by the Medical Examiner earlier today and the cause of death has been ruled a homicide. The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Damien Lamoureux. Our thoughts are with Damien’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
At approximately 8:26 p.m. ​ on May 21st​ 2021 , Halifax Regional Police responded to a report of a male ​ injured in the 1200 block of Barrington Street, Halifax.​ Three people were arrested at the scene and transported to Halifax Regional Police headquarters. Today, investigators in the Special Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division charged Mitchell William Coles, 26, of Halifax with second degree murder. The other two people taken into custody were released without charges earlier today.
Original reports received by police were that the male had a firearm and had been injured.​ After completing the initial investigation, police have learned that the victim was stabbed and later succumbed to his injuries. At this time, we do not have any evidence of firearm shots being fired as part of this incident. Investigators do not believe this to be a random incident, and are not looking for any other suspects.
