Man dies following shooting, death ruled a homicide

The 20-year-old victim of yesterday’s shooting in North Preston has succumbed to his injuries. Following an autopsy by the Medical Examiner, the death was ruled a homicide.

At approximately 12:55 a.m., on January 27, Halifax District RCMP responded to​ reports of shots fired in North Preston. Police located the victim of the shooting en route to the hospital, and he later succumbed to his injuries.

The investigation has revealed that the victim was shot near Clarence St. All
 scenes have been released and the investigation is ongoing, led by Major Crime Unit of the RCMP/HRP Integrated Criminal Investigation Division.

Our thoughts are with the victim’s family during this difficult time.

Update: Police investigate incident of shots fired

The RCMP/HRP Integrated Major Crime Unit of the Criminal Investigation Division is investigating reports of shots fired at two locations in North Preston that left a 20-year-old man with life-threatening injuries.

At approximately 12:55 a.m., Halifax District RCMP responded to​ reports of shots fired in North Preston. Police located a victim enroute to the hospital.

The investigation has revealed that the victim was shot near the areas of Clarence St. ​ A second report of shots fired from Alex Ln. is being investigated. It is not known at this time whether the incidents are related.



Police continue to be on scene in the community.

The investigation is ongoing and being led by the RCMP/HRP Integrated Major Crime Unit of the Criminal Investigation Division.

On January 27, Halifax District RCMP received several reports of shots fired in the community of North Preston.

At approximately 0055 hrs., Halifax District RCMP responded to​ reports of shots fired in the community of North Preston.

RCMP are presently conducting an active operation in the North Preston area as it is an unfolding event. The public will notice an increased police presence in the area.

Police are asking the residents to remain in their residences until further notice.​ It is also requested that the public stay away from the area until further notice.

The RCMP are continuing their investigation but are not requiring the community to stay inside nor the public to stay away.
