NOTE: The Council of Atlantic Premiers issued the following news release this morning, Dec. 4
———————————————————
In advance of the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women on Dec. 6, Atlantic Premiers have established the Atlantic Domestic Homicide Review Network to help prevent domestic homicides – the first regional review network of its kind in Canada.

The council’s news release can be found on its website: http://cap-cpma.ca/newsroom/

Nova Scotia’s members represent the Nova Scotia Advisory Council on the Status of Women, Department of Community Services, Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service and Department of Justice.

“This is a time to honour the memory of all women and girls whose bright futures were lost as a result of gender-based violence,” said Premier Stephen McNeil. “Understanding domestic homicide trends and circumstances will help to identify gaps in our systems so we can work with our partners – within and outside government – to prevent similar deaths in the future.”

The network supports Standing Together, government’s plan and commitment to work with partners to break harmful cycles of gender-based violence.
