A rally in solidarity with Mi’kmaq Fisher folks took place in Grand Parade.
“We are all Treaty people and it is our duty to uphold Mi’kmaq treaty rights.”
They are calling for the DFO to uphold the 1752 treaty of peace and friendship and the Marshal decision to support the Mi’kmaq right to a moderate livelihood after recent events escalated with a lobster pound in Middle West Pubnico was burned down, traps and gear sabotaged, among other serious events causing significant tensions.
