UPDATE: Police investigate suspicious package

Police have cleared the scene where a suspicious package was found in downtown Halifax earlier this morning.

At approximately 9:50 a.m. officers responded to a report of a suspicious package in Grand Parade.

The package was a hoax improvised explosive device. Police have determined it did not pose a risk to the public; however, it was designed to come across as threatening. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.

All streets in the area have been reopened to traffic. We thank the public for their patience and cooperation.

At approximately 9:50 a.m. officers responded to a report of a suspicious package in Grand Parade.

Argyle Street and Barrington Street between Duke Street and Prince Street are closed to pedestrian and vehicular traffic to allow officers to conduct the investigation. Please use alternate routes to avoid delays.
