Ongoing fraud investigation results in charges by Colchester County District RCMP
Colchester County District RCMP has charged a man in relation to an ongoing fraud investigation involving direct sales of home security and monitoring, and officers believe there may be more victims.
Between January 2024 and February 2025, Colchester County District RCMP received multiple reports of a person using high-pressure sale tactics to convince people to pay for home security system monitoring and upgrades. The victims were convinced to make payments via cash, e-transfers, or cheques, and did not receive the goods and services they paid for.
Investigators believe the same person has been active in Cumberland, East Hants, and Truro.
On March 5, officers arrested Brian Detheridge, 54, of Truro. He has been charged with Fraud Over $5000 and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.
Detheridge was released on conditions, including not to engage in employment related to home security system sales, installations, upgrades, or monitoring. He is scheduled to appear in Truro Provincial Court on May 7 at 9:30 a.m.
Investigators believe that there may be more victims who have not yet spoken with police, and there may be people who are not yet aware they have been victimized.
“I know that victims of frauds may feel awkward or embarrassed. However, reporting scams can help prevent other victims and we appreciate those who have spoken to us as part of this investigation,” says Cpl. Terry Brown, Community Action Team leader. “We do believe there may be more victims, and encourage them to contact police as well.”

Victoria County District RCMP charge man with 22 new offences after break and enter, threats
The Nova Scotia RCMP safely arrested an armed and barricade man in Wagmatcook, Victoria County.
On March 12 at approximately 2:15, Victoria County District RCMP responded to a report of an altercation between two people on Twin Ln. Officers learned that one of the men involved was acting erratically and had left with a knife.
Police located the man at a residence on Humes Rear East Loop and found that he was in possession of a firearm, in addition to the previously reported knife. The man made threats to himself and to officers on scene, and attempted to leave the area in two different stolen vehicles.
The man then broke into a different, unoccupied, home on Humes Rear East Loop and barricaded himself inside.
In the interest of public safety, a civil emergency alert was issued for Victoria, Inverness and Cape Breton Counties via Alert Ready.
The RCMP Emergency Response Team, Police Dog Services, Air Services, and Northeast Nova Traffic Services attended to support the Victoria County District RCMP. RCMP Crisis Negotiators also assisted.
At approximately 7:20, the man exited the home and he was safely arrested by the ERT. He was assessed and treated by EHS for injuries sustained earlier in the day, unrelated to the arrest or other police actions on scene.
Coady James Isadore, 36, of Wagmatcook, is facing a total of 22 new charges, in addition to previous charges from an outstanding warrant. New charges include Break and Enter to a Dwelling House, Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance (vehicle), Utter Threats, several firearms offences including Pointing A Firearm, and nine counts of Failure to Comply with a Release Order. He remains in custody and will have a first court appearance on March 13.

Officers on scene appreciated support from EHS and Fire Rescue Services during the response and cooperation of neighbours and the public as they worked toward a peaceful resolution.
