Halifax Regional Police statement on a recent incident involving an assault
A number of people have commented on police response and follow up to an incident that took place on September 18.
At approximately 3:10 am, Halifax Regional Police responded to a report of an assault in progress at a residence on Connolly Street in Halifax. A 57- year-old- male was arrested and charged with Assault, Uttering Threats and Intimidation. The male was released on conditions in accordance with the court process and will appear in court at a later date.
The matter is currently before the courts, and we would like to assure citizens that every possible step is being taken to follow up on the case and contact is being made regularly with the victim. Questions have been raised about the conditions imposed on the accused and his ongoing ability to live in close proximity to the victim at another residence. It is important to remember that the police do not have the ability or authority to evict residents from their homes in these circumstances. Having said that, we have continued to maintain contact to ensure the victim is fully aware of what would constitute breaching those conditions, and what steps are involved to report such information.
We appreciate the public’s concern in this matter, and we want to assure everyone that our investigators continue to monitor and respond as appropriate, and we will continue to bring forward any new information that comes to light in this matter as part of our consultations with the Crown.
