12 company, which consists of an engine, midmount aerial and Tactical unit, headed out today to get in some practical training, using individual and cooperative techniques required in structure fires.

Engine 12 took in hose to hydrant training while the aerial operator took the crew for a 100′ climb and maneuvers.

The crews then combined forces when they practiced engine to aerial hose hookups. This technique can be very useful.

Aerial unit placement during a structure fire can make a big difference, from observation to rescue, and for a powerful aerial water attack, the quints and aerial trucks of the HRFE play a big role.

In many cases, however, a hydrant may not be in a practical location to allow a constant water flow to the aerial, so tankers and engines may assist by hooking to a hydrant then running heavy flow lines to the farther aerial unit which is in an ideal location for its purpose on scene.

Fire crews train constantly so they can respond reflexively when needed, and hands on training keeps the crews moving and ready.
