SiRT Investigating Serious Injury and Seeks Dash Cam Footage from the Public

The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) is investigating a matter involving a serious injury sustained by an adult male who was struck by a vehicle being driven by an off-duty Halifax Regional Police (HRP) Officer in Porters Lake, Nova Scotia.
Preliminary information suggests the following:
- In the early afternoon of January 24, 2025, an off-duty HRP Officer struck a male who was standing next to a truck on the side of the Myra Road.
- The male was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries.
- Impaired driving has been ruled out.
Due to the serious injury sustained by the male, SiRT has assumed responsibility for this investigation.
To aid in this investigation, SiRT is now looking for individuals who may have been travelling on Myra Rd on Friday January 24, 2025, between 12:40pm and 12:55pm and are in possession of dash camera footage. Anyone who may have such footage or witnessed a collision on Myra Road is asked to contact the investigator at (902) 943-2337.
SiRT is responsible for investigating all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence or other matters of a public interest to be investigated that may have arisen from the actions of any police officer in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick. Investigations are under the direction and control of an independent civilian director, who has the sole authority to determine if charges should be laid at the conclusion of an investigation.
