The Emergency Management Office (EMO) continues to remind Nova Scotians to be prepared for Hurricane Teddy. Current forecast models indicate Nova Scotia is expected to start feeling strong weather effects Tuesday night from a post-tropical storm.

The following is an update on the province’s preparation for Hurricane Teddy:
— the Emergency Management Office (EMO) is monitoring the storm and providing regular updates
— EMO activated the provincial co-ordination centre Sept. 20 at noon
— storm surges are possible and may have significant impacts
— with high winds forecast, Nova Scotians are asked to secure yard furniture and trash cans, hanging plants and other items that can be picked up by wind
— there is still time to prepare your emergency kit and ensure you have enough food and water for 72 hours
— government encourages Nova Scotians to continue to monitor local media outlets for weather updates in order to ensure their safety
— Nova Scotia Power continues to prepare and secure crews. Crews are beginning safety checks today with staging across the province to be ready to respond when it is safe to do so
— police services are monitoring the situation and are ready to respond

Nova Scotians are being asked to check on their neighbours, to see if they need any supplies. This is especially important for the elderly or vulnerable. Also, make sure any summer yard furniture, equipment or structures are taken inside or secured.
