HALIFAX CITADEL – DISCONNECTED FOR A DAY

Halifax Citadel National Historic Site will be truly a 19th century experience on Saturday, September 19, when Nova Scotia Power’s planned outage turns back time to when there was no electricity in the fort.

Parks Canada is advising the public that the interior courtyard of the fort will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the noon gun will mark lunchtime as usual. However, due to the required planned outage by Nova Scotia Power (so they can safely make the necessary repairs to their equipment), there will be no indoor spaces open.

Washrooms, visitor centre, gift shop, exhibits and the Halifax Citadel Army Museum will be closed. They will re-open on Sunday, September 20, as per normal business, with guidelines for physical distancing. As per Nova Scotia’s direction to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, visitors are required to wear non-medical masks or face coverings in indoor public places.

The Parks Canada Halifax Citadel National Historic Site website provides detailed information on what is open, what visitors can expect, how to prepare for a visit and what services may be available. Visitors are asked to plan ahead by checking the website before they travel.
