Shelburne RCMP investigate stolen motor vehicle and seize firearms

Shelburne RCMP is investigating after firearms and drugs were seized from a stolen vehicle in Jordan Branch.

On December 2, at approximately 6:10 a.m., Shelburne RCMP responded to a report of an SUV that had been stolen from a residence in the Port Saxon area. With the help of the vehicle owner, a responding officer tracked the vehicle to Sandy Point Rd. in Jordan Ferry.

Upon arrival, the officer located the vehicle, a black Chevrolet Traverse, parked on the secluded road and observed two males inside the vehicle. The two men then ran into a wooded area.

With assistance of RCMP Police Dog Services and the RCMP Emergency Response Team, officers tracked the two men for several hours to a nearby residence. After repeated attempts by officers to have the men exit the home, one man was safely arrested outside the residence. Officers then conducted a search of the home but didn’t locate the second man.

In the vehicle, officers located and seized a handgun, modified loaded shotgun, a quantity of prescription pills and cocaine.

Adam Joseph Dunford, 45, of Shag Harbour, has been charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Carrying a Concealed Weapon (two counts) and Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm. He appeared in Yarmouth Provincial Court on December 2 and was remanded into custody pending his next appearance on December 6.

The investigation is ongoing and Shelburne RCMP is continuing efforts to locate the second suspect.
