Provincial Government Mail Pickup at Access Centres
Some essential provincial government mail delayed by the postal strike will be available for pickup at Access Nova Scotia centres starting Saturday, November 30.
Only people who have received a call from government staff about their items can get them Saturday, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the centre closest to them. People need to have valid government identification for the pickup.
Nova Scotians who have not yet received a call about their essential correspondence are asked to be patient while waiting to hear from staff.
The pickup service is scheduled for Saturdays to provide Nova Scotians the convenience of not having to wait while other Access Nova Scotia clients are served. However, it may be possible to pick up mail on another day – people can ask if there is another option when they hear from staff.
Essential provincial government correspondence includes items such as:
– Heating Assistance Rebate Program cheques
– Maintenance Enforcement Program cheques
– Property Tax Rebate for Seniors payments
– Seniors Care Grant cheques
– long-term care reassessment forms.
Department of Community Services clients who receive cheques should contact their caseworkers directly. They can pick up their cheques at a Community Services office.
The Province will not collect or deliver items that are unrelated to the provincial government, including:
– passport applications
– federal government GST/HST rebate cheques
– power bills
– holiday cards or gifts.
Wherever possible, Nova Scotians should use online services and direct deposit.
