Voting Options for the Provincial General Election

There are a variety of voting options available in the provincial general election. Election day is Tuesday, November 26, 2024 but voters in Nova Scotia can vote early at any voting location in the province. Eligible voters in Nova Scotia, can also apply to vote remotely or have a write-in ballot team visit them in their home.

Eligible voters can be added to the voters list during the provincial general election when they go to vote. Voters in Nova Scotia can use the ‘Where do I Vote?” tool on the Elections Nova Scotia website (electionsnovascotia.ca) or call 1-800-565-1504 to find a voting location near them.

Voters in Nova Scotia can apply to vote remotely using a write-in ballot. A write-in ballot is the remote voting option available to eligible voters in the provincial general election. Voters can contact their returning office for information on how to apply for a write-in ballot or to arrange for a write-in ballot team to visit a voter in their home. All completed write-in ballot kits must be returned before the close of voting on election day to be counted, that is, 8 pm on Tuesday, November 26, 2024.

On election day, Tuesday, November 26, 2024, voting will be open from 8 am to 8 pm. On election day, voters in Nova Scotia may vote at their assigned voting location or the returning office in their electoral district.

Eligible voters in the provincial general election must be 18 years of age or older on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, a Canadian citizen, and have lived in Nova Scotia since April 27, 2024 (six months before the writs of election were issued).

Nova Scotia Voters Can Apply to Vote Remotely

Eligible voters in Nova Scotia can apply to vote remotely using a writ-in ballot.

Voters can also ask someone they trust who is at least 18 years old to act as their agent to help them apply for and return their write-in ballot. Voters can call their returning office if they need assistance with the write-in ballot process.

Returning offices can even arrange for a write-in ballot team to visit a voter at home to facilitate their vote.

Once a write-in ballot application is approved, the voter will be sent a write-in ballot kit with instructions.

It is important for voters to understand the deadlines to return their completed write-in ballot kit so it can be counted. Voters are asked to please allow adequate time so their write-in ballot can be returned by the deadline.

The deadlines to apply for a write-in ballot out of district is Saturday, November 16, 2024, by 6pm.

The deadlines apply for a write-in ballot in district, in-person and by agent is Tuesday, November 26,2024, at 3 pm.

Write-in ballots are conducted every day except Sunday during hours returning offices are open (Mondays to Saturdays 9 am – 6 pm).
