Yesterday, a NSP team at Tufts Cove noticed a light oily sheen on the water along the edge of the plant.
A preliminary investigation indicates a minor issue within the cooling system environment which allowed a small amount of oily water from the plant to seep out and create a light sheen on the outer edges of the plant along the water.
As a precaution, staff deployed booms to ensure the small area was contained. The sheen was reported to our regulators as per the protocol. They were on site yesterday and indicated they were satisfied with response.
The clean up is substantially complete, however, booms are being left in place for a few days as an extra precaution.
