Police lay charges in weapons incident

Halifax Regional Police has charged three men and a woman in relation to a weapons incident that occurred yesterday in Halifax.

On October 3 at approximately 9:30 p.m. officers responded to a weapons complaint in the 150-200 block of Harlington Cresent in Halifax. During the investigation, a search warrant was conducted at which time a handgun and long gun were seized by officers. The four adults were arrested at the scene without incident and there were no reported physical injuries.

Stewart Leon Brown, 33, Kirk Patrick Brown, 53, Robert Edward Hamilton, 54, and Tiah Christina Riego, 33, are scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court later today, each to face charges of:

  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace (x2)
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition obtained by crime (x2)
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm (x1)
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm (x2)
  • Store firearm or restricted weapon contrary to regulations (x2)
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm (x1)
  • Possession of a firearm no license/certificate (x2)

At this time, the investigation is ongoing and additional charges may follow.
