Halifax Regional Police warn public of theft ring targeting businesses in Halifax

Halifax Regional Police (HRP) is warning the public of a series of high-value thefts targeting retail stores in Halifax. The individuals involved employ a distraction-based method of theft and are responsible for multiple incidents over the past several days.

On September 17, 2024, HRP received a report that approximately $12,000 worth of merchandise was stolen from a sports apparel store in Halifax. Two males entered the store and engaged the clerk with questions about various shoes. This distraction caused the clerk to go to the back of the store to retrieve additional items. While the clerk was occupied, two females also entered the store and joined the two males.

The same day, the same four individuals were involved in a similar incident at a Shoppers Drug Mart in Bedford, where approximately $14,000 worth of fragrances were stolen using the same distraction techniques. HRP believes the group may be travelling throughout the area. Similar instances involving the same group were reported in the Moncton area, in New Brunswick.

HRP is asking the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity that may be related to this group.

HRP is also asking for the public’s assistance identifying the individuals in the attached photos. Anyone with information about the identity of these individuals or their whereabouts is urged to contact Halifax Regional Police or Crime Stoppers.
