Meteghan RCMP Detachment arrest man after spree of thefts
Meteghan RCMP Detachment has arrested a man and recovered stolen property after an incident involving a firearm in Bangor.
On June 18, just before 10 a.m., Meteghan RCMP Detachment responded to a request for police assistance in the 1000-block of Maza Rd. after a 34-year-old man from Saulnierville Station located property stolen from him in a vehicle at a residence.
Officers learned that when the victim attempted to retrieve his property, he was confronted by a man with a firearm.
At approximately 11:10 a.m., officers surrounded the house and contacted the suspect, who surrendered himself and was safely arrested.
That same day, a search warrant was executed at the residence and two rifles, along with ammunition, were seized. A truck stolen from the victim on June 13 was also recovered.
Through the investigation, officers linked the man to the theft of a portable wood mill in Saint Martin on June 11, and to the theft of a speedboat on June 17 in Cape Saint Mary.
The 62-year-old man from Bangor, NS, is facing the following charges:
- Theft Over $5,000
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 (2 counts)
- Unsafe Storage of Firearms
- Careless Use of a Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm When Knowing Possession is Unauthorized
He was released on conditions to appear in Yarmouth Provincial Court on August 16, at 9:30 a.m., and Digby Provincial Court on August 19 at 9:30 a.m.
