It’s been one year since the devastating wildfire broke out in the Hammonds Plains and Upper Tantallon communities, displacing more than 16,000 residents at its peak and burning hundreds of hectares of forest and rural and suburban infrastructure within the municipality including homes, businesses and community facilities.

Many lost beloved pets and items of great sentimental value. It was one of the largest municipal evacuations and emergency responses on record.

Today, let’s remember all that was lost, honour those who came to the rescue, and take pride in how our region came together to support one another during such a difficult and tumultuous time.

Considerable work has been completed in the past year, with more underway, to improve the municipality’s ability to respond to similar emergencies and build resiliency within our communities to protect life, property and infrastructure. For more information, please visit: https://brnw.ch/21wKcuP
