An art show is being planned for support to protect  Dartmouth Cove

**** Info via The Dart Gallery

I took this photo in a moment of joy – incredibly grateful for my morning walk, my surroundings, nature, and for Dartmouth, where someone took time to write kind and endearing messages along the path.

And now we’re told this is going to be taken away. So Dartmouth Cove can be infilled, for years.

To the Department of Oceans and Fisheries –  this decision is a mistake. It would be wise to reevaluate and reverse this.

To Bruce Wood – this is a ruthless and disrespectful move.

This is an art show and a call to action. For this show, everyone is invited to submit work with the theme of, but not limited to:

Dartmouth Cove, Community, Public Spaces, Nature, Environmental Destruction, Greenwashing, Politics, Global Warming, and most of all – HOPE AND RESILIENCE AND FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT.

And – @darrenfisher    you’ve been asking me for years for a KISS show. I will combine it with this one if you’re up for it!

.

Everyone involved in this decision is culpable. This would be a gain for a rich few and massive losses for many. Those losses will include –

– the loss of a wonderful and well utilized active transportation route (Active transportation benefits include – reduced emissions, increased physical and mental health, increased sense of happiness, community connection, lower hospital costs)

– the loss of a fun and comfortable public space

– the loss of respect for those who live and work in the area, who would be subject to disruption, mess, and noise, for years – and then the loss of a wonderful community space

– the loss of respect for the water and the land

– the loss of a public art space. Dartmouth Cove has hosted the Hopscotch Festival multiple times, as well as being a community art space

And that’s just a few.
