Lunenburg District RCMP charge a man after a vehicle failed to stop for police

The Lunenburg District RCMP has charged a man after a vehicle failed to stop for police, on more than one occasion over a two-day period, in Lunenburg County.

On April 24, at approximately 3:15 p.m., police observed a black Volkswagen, parked on Hwy 325 in Blockhouse., that matched the description of vehicle involved in a theft that had just occurred.

When officers of the Lunenburg District RCMP, with the assistance of the South Shore Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit (SCEU), attempted to approach the vehicle it quickly fled, side swiping a parked vehicle on the roadway. In the interest of public safety, a pursuit was not initiated. Officers at the scene did however recognize the driver.

Patrols in the area were unsuccessful in locating the man or the vehicle.

On April 25, at approximately 10:08 a.m., Bridgewater Police Service attempted a traffic stop on the same vehicle driven by the same man who refused once again to stop for police. A pursuit was not initiated.

Later that day, Lunenburg District RCMP, with the assistance of the public, Bridgewater Police Service, RCMP Police Dog Services (PDS), RCMP Air Services, SCEU and RCMP Operational Communications Centre (OCC) located the vehicle abandoned in a rural area in Walden.

PDS then tracked the male driver and a female passenger who were arrested without incident.

Christopher David Dixon, 45, from Lunenburg County was charged with:

  • Theft (four counts)
  • Assault
  • Dangerous Operation (two counts)
  • Flight from Peace Officer (two counts)
  • Failure to Stop After Accident

Dixon was held in custody and appeared today in Bridgewater Provincial Court.

The 34-year-old Italy Cross woman was held in custody due to an outstanding arrest warrant.
