This morning at HRFE headquarters, we were pleased to officially welcome our new Wildfire Mitigation Program Manager, Kara McCurdy.

Kara brings to the position over three decades of invaluable experience in both Structural and Wildland Firefighting. Her credentials include certifications in Fire Service Management and Forest Technology, reflecting her dedication to excellence in her field.  Throughout her career, Kara has demonstrated exceptional leadership and expertise, having served in various capacities such as Wildland Firefighter, Supervisor, Department of Natural Resources Natural Resource Educator, DNRR Wildfire Prevention Officer, and a Volunteer Firefighter with HRFE. 

Some community groups throughout the municipality will already be familiar working with Kara as she has worked with communities to develop wildfire risk assessments and wildfire protection plans with them. Kara has also held leadership roles as Captain and Volunteer Deputy Chief in Middle Musquodoboit.
