Meteghan RCMP charge a man with firearm offences
Meteghan RCMP has charged a man with firearm offences following a police checkpoint in Church Point.
On February 22, at approximately 9:33 p.m., Meteghan RCMP were conducting a police checkpoint on Hwy. 1 verifying documents and drivers’ sobriety when a Toyota Tacoma approached the checkpoint. During the stop, RCMP officers observed unsecured firearms in the backseat of the vehicle.
The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle, a 40-year-old Belliveau Cove man, was safely arrested. During a search of the vehicle, RCMP officers located and seized one loaded rifle and ammunitions.
Simon Christian Maillet, 40, has been charged with:
- Careless use of Firearm;
- Contravention of Storage Regulations;
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm;
- Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition;
- Illegally Transporting Cannabis in Vehicle (Cannabis Control Act).
Maillet surrendered his Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) and additional weapons in his possession to the Meteghan RCMP. He was then released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in Digby Provincial Court on April 8, 2024 at 9:30 a.m.
