The Office of the Fire Marshal is urging residents and business owners to check propane storage tanks, piping, lines and any other equipment that may be exposed to falling or heavy snow and ice.

There have been several reports of equipment and lines being damaged by falling snow and ice, or snow clearing.

If people have concerns they should contact their fuel provider. Only a certified technician is allowed to work on equipment and tanks and people should not try to do it themselves.

People are also reminded that even during these challenging times, all exit doors must be free of ice and snow at all times. This especially important for any facilities with residents who may have unique needs. The Office of the Fire Marshall reminds all bars, restaurants and businesses that all exits must be cleared before opening for a safe exit in case of emergency.

Also, in extreme circumstances, extremely heavy snow loads can be a danger and should be safely cleared from roofs when possible.
