Multiple weather warnings in effect

Rainfall warning

Rain, heavy at times is expected.

Locations: Atlantic coast of mainland Nova Scotia.

Total rainfall: 25 mm, with locally higher amounts possible.

Time span: this afternoon until early Sunday morning.

Remarks: The rain will be preceded by a brief period of snow or ice pellets.

If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.

Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.

Wind warning

Strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring.

Maximum wind gusts: southeasterly up to 90 km/h.

Location: Nova Scotia

Time span: this afternoon until this evening for western mainland Nova Scotia, this evening until overnight tonight for for eastern mainland Nova Scotia, and tonight until early Sunday morning for Cape Breton.

High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break. Utility outages may occur.

Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.

Storm surge warning

High Storm Surge levels and large waves are expected to impact the coast.

Higher than normal water levels with large waves are expected near the coast.

Locations: Atlantic coast of Mainland Nova Scotia, especially south-facing shorelines.

Maximum Water Levels: exceeding high astronomical tide, with water inundating vulnerable sections of coastline.

Maximum wave heights: 4 to 6 metres, breaking upon approach to shore.

Time span: this evening. Worst near high tide.

High tide: 8:30 P.M. to 11:30 P.M.

Expect some damage in areas directly exposed to high waves. Coastal flooding is possible along the shoreline.

Storm surge warnings are issued when water levels pose a threat to coastal regions.
