With the snow forecasted for Sunday and Monday, the Department of Community Services has been working with service providers across the province to increase capacity for people experiencing homelessness to have access to supports if they need them.

Anyone looking for supports can call 2-1-1 to be connected to services in their community. The following is a list of available supports for affected areas, including a temporary emergency shelter opening in Halifax.

HRM

6210 Young Street in the Multi-Purpose Centre at the Halifax Forum, Open Sunday January 7 12pm, until Monday January 8 12pm.
– Beacon House/Sackville – 125 Metropolitan Ave, Lower Sackville (902) 864-1584 3/7

In HRM, outreach workers and Ground Search and Rescue will be out to ensure people know what resources are available to them, and assist them in getting to a shelter if needed.

TRURO
– Haven House – 29 Arthur Street, (902) 843-2538

KENTVILLE & surrounding areas
– Open Arms Shelter – 32 Cornwallis St, Kentville, (902) 365-3665.

AMHERST
Cumberland Homelessness and Housing Support Association (902) 669-2238.
– 55 Victoria Road, Amherst, Open 8am until 8pm daily. (drop in)
– 63 Church Street, Amherst, Open 8 pm to 8 am daily. (emergency shelter beds)

BRIDGEWATER
