Pictou County’s Operation Christmas and Project Red Ribbon checkpoint passes out hundreds of Red Ribbons to remind drivers not to drive impaired

Law enforcement agencies from Stellarton Police Service, Westville Police Service, New Glasgow Regional Police, Pictou County District RCMP, New Glasgow Fire Department and Trenton Fire Department partnered with MADD Canada yesterday on Westville Road this holiday season to help keep impaired drivers off the roads. Hundreds of Red Ribbons were passed out to drivers as a reminder not to drink and drive.

Throughout the month of December police will be setting up checkpoints targeting impaired drivers across Pictou County.

Pictou County’s Operation Christmas-Project Red Ribbon is an annual campaign aimed at reducing impaired driving and encouraging motorists to practice safe winter driving. Police in Pictou County will be partnering with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Canada for the annual December kick-off. This year the annual public kick-off will involve several checkpoints throughout December with the key message of making our roads safer.

“Driving while impaired, whether by drugs or alcohol, takes place at all times of the day,” said Constable Ken Macdonald of the New Glasgow Regional Police. ”We all have a responsibility to keep our roads safe. Reminder if you suspect an impaired driver you can call 911”.
